In several regions of the world, human rights conceptions are promoted that challenge the mainstream, largely Western-dominated discourse on this subject. This volume offers an analysis of context-specific human rights discourses from East Asia, Subsaharan Africa and the Muslim World. Rather than interpreting these as threats to universality, the author examines how and to what extent the claims that are advanced can and should be accommodated in order to further the universality of human rights. A theory of inclusive universality' is developed, and its implications are translated into legal techniques. On the one hand, there are flexibility' techniques, allowing for contextual diversity in the interpretation and application of human rights norms. On the other hand, giving credit to non-Western views also implies that there should be room for transformation' of those human rights norms

Since the collapse of the communist regimes of Eastern Europe, the Balkans have been more prominent in world affairs than at any time since before the First World War. Crises in the areas have led to NATO firing its first ever shots in anger, whilst international forces have been deployed on a scale and in a manner unprecedented in Europe since the Second World War.

An understanding of why this happened is impossible without some knowledge of the history of the area before the fall of communism, of how the communists came to power and how they wielded their authority thereafter. This book is the only comprehensive survey of the history of the region since 1945. It deals with the communist states of Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia, but it also covers Greece, ¿the one that got away¿. It is an introduction to a complicated area and a complicated history. It will provide a definitive guide to all who are interested in this region: student, journalist, politician, lawyer, business person and tourist.

R.J. Crampton is Professor of East European History and Fellow of St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford. He is the author of many books on Central and Eastern Europe, including `Eastern Europe in the Twentieth Century ¿ And After¿ (1997).

excellent read

this book is exactly what it says it is and is excellent at that task. i highly recommend this book to a sys-admin that wants to understand the basics of encryption without being an expert, anyone interested in cryptograms, or anyone with just a casual interest in the history, and concepts of cryptography.

this book is not designed for mathematicians or security experts looking deep inner workings of algorithms.

the book is easy to follow without the need for a technical or mathematics background and gives occasional problems for the reader to solve which will be of interest to anyone who enjoys cryptograms.

as a network engineer, i found this an enjoyable pleasure read which shed some light on the encryption protocols employed on some of the gear i manage.

covers the main ideas, with little maths needed

The book is good as befits its subtitle. Indeed, a very short introduction, with only a minimal evocation of maths background. But there is enough qualitative explanation so that you can understand the broad historical development. From the Caesar Cipher to a Simple Substitution Cipher to a Vigenere Square Cipher. Then, the text goes into modern ideas, all of which involve using computers to encrypt and decrypt. Notably the invention of the public key system. Truly quite different from all that preceded it.

There is also a brief foray into quantum computing. Here, it is mostly conceptual; discussing the possible potential, since current implementations are very rudimentary. The text has no mention of man in the middle attacks and how to guard against these. Pity. Because while this is a very hard attack to perform, if it can done, then it is very hard to defend against. One of the promises of quantum computing is that it inherently offers a simple detection, based on quantum interference by the attacker.

I was surprised that the booklet goes into the history of cryptography, but it's relatively thorough. Great resource if you need a quick, accurate, and complete review of the subject for people who aren't cryptologists or cryptographers.

A modern, comprehensive guide

This is a very good book for an intermediate leisure sailor or a beginner racer.
All the topics are covered, from the purchase of an used boat, to a small brief about tactics and strategies, but sailing techniques are the core: therefore both a leisure sailor and a racer will beneft reading the book. There are lot of pictures and both photos and ilustrations are well done.

If you are a real newbie to sailing, you'll need to learn the basics somewhere else (possibly with a course), but you only have a vague idea of sailing and its terminology, you'll find everything you need to become a good laser sailor. I read this book several times, each time I tried to apply a topic or a hint on the water and every time I understood something more. I think that even an experienced sailor (read: over 30), could find something useful. I'm sure that if you want to win a race you must know (and be able to apply on the water) almost every page: a good sailor could use the book as a sort of check-list.
I race at local level and my results improved: thank you Paul!

With a wider coverage of starting techniques and strategy I'd have rated it five star. Probably the guys at RYA want to sell another book about these two topics ;-)

One of the top books to get for Laser racing

Excellent book by an Olympic gold medalist that will help you advance your Laser sailing no matter what your skill level.

In my case, this book was useful even though I had lots of time in Lasers: when I bought this I already had sailed in a number of Laser nationals and one worlds, placing first in one Nationals and 15th in Worlds. Plus plenty of regional regattas and clinics. However, my Laser experience was all in the 80s and 90s and was very dated. For instance, we didn't zigzag downwind back then like sailors do today.

When I got back into the Laser for Masters sailing, I got this book, re-reading it several times. It helped a ton in terms of learning the new techniques. The book has a lot of photo sequences, which are invaluable for understanding proper boathandling. It's a good idea to review each photo closely -- often there are implied tips that aren't mentioned in the next itself.

Great Laser specific book!

This book is a great guide for anyone who already knows how to sail, doesn't know the Laser and plans to perform well in races. It is specificly about the Laser. I read many (if not all) Laser specific books and this one is -by far- the best available nowadays. Many of the other Laser guides are outdated due to new techniques, new equipment and new class rules.

It is well organized and sophisticated in everything Laser specific, from buying and rigging the boat to sailing trim and techniques. The paper, colors and print quality are very good. There are lots of excelent pictures clarifying the details, of which there are A LOT more than one would expect in a boat that was meant to be as simple as possible.

Complement with a dinghy sailing tactics manual, learn about wind and waves and you are ready to train seriously!

It was 2 o’clock in the morning and I couldn’t sleep. There was so much energy both in the body and in the mind. I was completely unsettled. I decided not to force myself to sleep and instead I decided to stay up and then I proceeded to read The Value of Truth: Living Prosperity From The Core. As I was reading I noticed that waves of peaceful energy begain to undulate through my being. This happened sporadically as I continued to read. Before long I notice that my whole body and mind came into a sort of meditation. My breathing was regulated and my body and mind were no longer racing. I was experiencing equanimity. It was amazing. I never experienced that from reading a book before in much the same way. Since I am writing this days afterwards I just want to offer my profound gratitude to Arathima for such a powerful and life altering book. The audio guide meditation has brought me to my core in such a way that in the alignment I am not ruled by thoughts, my mind returns to its beautiful and natural stillness. Today I worked on the exercise to deal with issues embedded in the unconscious and body and although I don’t know the effects at this point I will say that I felt the energies move through my body as an unraveling. I did this exercise after the Infinite Core & Heart Meditation and Activation, so I know it was truth and not the mind owning the experience. I am using this audio guide now on a regular basis. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

A great book on how to create true abundance in all ...

A great book on how to create true abundance in all areas of our lives. It is a fast yet full read. I felt like Arathi Ma was right beside me explaing the true pricopals of abundance and how the world really works from the perspective of enlightenment. The language is simple and straight forward. There is an energy transmission that takes place leaving me feeling calm, hopeful and directed. Thank you for the blessings of your teachings.

She shrugs them off, but now when she blacks out she’s started to see visions of people dying, real people. And she’s started to be overcome with an inexplicable urge to follow, and help, the killer no matter the cost.

Interesting Turn

The first book was so amazing, it hooked me into wanting the second one as soon as I reached the last page. My reason for loving it so quickly was because Liv had a mind with no patience; she saw the obvious and called it out, figuring things out before anyone else. In this installment, that gets washed away when she accidentally poisons herself with a venom that begins to change her into something... unknown.

The plot to save her (human) life before she dies or Turns was great because we saw more action and more 'romance' via Jared, though in my opinion, he's just too weird and she's just too conservative and dense, though while infected, she was pretty awesome in getting under his skin. *winks* Everything was as great as the first, with the exception of my main gal now being as slow as the rest of the characters, if not less, all because of her venom.

Definite recommend.

I don't really want to give anything away about this book! It's a brilliant mystery as it is a brilliant tale! I loved it! There were a few disappointments, but I can't have everything my way! They were supremely small however, and didn't effect my decision to read or not to read.
